Visit to Florida

I'm heading to Ft. Lauderdale in mid-March for a really short visit with Rawley. He sounds so down whenever I talk to him that I found a way to make a short stop while returning from North Carolina. I'll let everyone know how he's doing, when I get back.

My very brief visit to Florida was filled with mixed emotions. Rawley wasn't feeling very well the day I was in town. He's still sharp mentally; but is very frail looking. He can walk unassisted, but shuffles slowly. The medication he has been taking was causing him to be nauseated most days. The doctor was weaning him off it, but he still wasn't up to having a meal with me. As you can see by the photo, he still loves having his picture taken!

His new home is very small, but very Rawley! It has the theatrical touches and colors that we all remember so well. He's spending time sewing and crocheting. He hasn't developed any relationships, to speak of. The folks in his building know him; and he finds people in Floriday very nice, in general. His cousin Troy in Ft. Lauderdale has turned out to be a real disappointment. He misses the Bay Area with all its social opportunities and theatre.

He's excited about a trip that he's planning to NYC for a theatre fest in June. He was invited by his cousin (Troy's mother) in Ocala FL. I'm really glad that he's got something to look forward to.

I'm grateful that I had the opportunity to see him, even if it was only for a few hours. I'm afraid this may be the last time we are able to see each other. He enjoys getting letters from you all. You can try calling, but his hearing loss makes it difficult to have conversations with him.
